Toteme has made quiet Scandi tailoring the uniform of a London winter, and the Hoody coat is the one everyone has saved. Long, belted, hooded, in a wool that looks exactly as expensive as it is.

£1,180 is a lot of coat. So we went looking for the same lines for less. Whistles is strongest on funnel necks and scarf collars. Reiss does the long, sharp shapes best.

The trick with a cheaper coat is the label. Look for a high wool percentage and skip anything that is mostly polyester. Every coat here is wool or a wool blend.
